In 1954 Harry Watts came to Kalamazoo, Michigan to become a home builder. Between 1954 and 1972 Harry created several construction company partnerships, but in 1972 he founded Watts Construction Company. After his children were grown, the three boys joined the family business.

Upon Harry's passing in 1974, Don (the eldest son) took over the family business with his two brothers. After a few years the two brothers left the company to pursue other ventures. Meanwhile, Don and his wife Joyce, expanded the business creating new neighborhoods and building more homes while raising a family. One by one two of their children, Joy and Matt, came into the business, making them third-generation builders.

In 2008 the company added another name, Watts Homes to the group. Watts Homes now handles the construction of new homes while Watts Construction Company builds the commercial/industrial buildings.
